Woolworth has apologised to customers after it mistakenly sent an email to around 80,000 shoppers telling them they had won a prize in the “Big Night In prize” draw.

Customer Chloe told Chris Lynch Media she received an email on Wednesday at 3pm, saying she was the winner for through the Woolworths rewards programme.

“They said I’d won 4000 reward points and my $30 voucher would be loaded to my account.

“Then I received another email in the evening, saying the first email was sent in error and that i wouldn’t be getting the $30 voucher and instead would get 500 points.. this sucks! They need to suck it up and honour their stupid mistake.”

A Woolworth spokesperson told Chris Lynch Media the email was only intended for around 1,000 customers and an incorrect audience selection meant that it was sent to other customers mistakenly.

“We have contacted all of the customers we mistakenly emailed and have given them 500 Everyday Rewards points by way of apology.

We will be undertaking a full review of this incident to understand what we can do to prevent this happening in future” a spokesperson said.
