State highway closed following serious crash

State Highway 6, north of Punakaiki has been closed following a serious crash.

A police spokesperson said the two-vehicle crash was reported to police at 1:42pm.

Initial indications are that there are serious injuries.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, and expect delays.

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.
