Power cut to Christchurch suburbs after power box catches fire

Residents in Shirley Dallington and Marshland could be without power until tomorrow morning.

A power box on Birkdale Drive caught fire at 5:47 pm.

Fire and Emergency crews from Anzac Fire Station were called to the scene to put the blaze out.

At one point, 1400 customers were without power.

Orion said a contractor was at the scene connecting cables to enable the network to get power on to the remaining area.
