Three injured after stolen car crashes in Burnside

Three people were injured when the stolen car they were in crashed into a power pole in Burnside last night.

A police spokeswoman told chrislynchmedia.com they were advised of the crash on Wairakei Road at 11.20pm, near the intersection with Charlcott Street.

There were two cars involved in the crash, bringing lines down across the road.

One of the cars involved was stolen and the driver fled the scene immediately following the crash, but was located a short time later, the police spokeswoman said.

An eyewitness said he saw a police dog handler at the scene and several fire appliances.

Three other people from the stolen car sustained injuries, and one person from the second car also suffered minor injuries.

A St John spokeswoman said they responded with ambulances.

“Crews assessed and treated three patients who were transported to Christchurch hospital in a moderate condition.”
