Significant infrastructure upgrades are underway in Ilam, Bryndwr, and Burnside.

The works encompasses a range of projects, including intersection upgrades, road resurfacing, and water main renewal.

The focus of the construction will be on enhancing safety at three busy intersections: Athol Terrace with Waimairi Road, Clyde Road intersecting with Ilam Road, and the Clyde Road and Greers Road junction.

Additionally, work continues on the Nor’West Arc Cycleway.

Contractors are back on-site, advancing the cycleway construction along Ilam Road, stretching from Memorial Avenue to Ilam Fields.

A critical aspect of the projects involves the replacement of aging water infrastructure.

Old water pipes nearing the end of their service life will be replaced on Memorial Avenue, between Ilam Road and Roydvale Avenue.

Further, road resurfacing work is scheduled on sections of Grahams Road and Roydvale Avenue, contributing to smoother and safer driving conditions.

Transport Operations Manager Stephen Wright said “this is a huge package of work, and we know road works are disruptive.

“We’re taking a high impact, short duration approach and doing everything in the area at once to get out of people’s way as quickly as possible and minimize the impact on the area in the longer term.”

Wright also noted that the bulk of the work commenced in early January to capitalise on the quieter holiday period and to finish before the school and university year begins in earnest.

Most projects are expected to be completed by March, with the Memorial Avenue water main renewal extending until May and the Nor’West Arc Cycleway construction continuing through June.
