Nationwide fuel stations outages at self-service pumps

Fuel stations across New Zealand are experiencing widespread disruptions at their self-service pumps.

Several major brands including Allied Petroleum, Gull, Z, and Waitomo have encountered difficulties due to a software glitch reportedly triggered by the unique leap year date of February 29.

A spokesperson from Gull said that the glitch has rendered payment terminals unusable nationwide.

The spokesperson said the glitch appears to primarily impact outdoor payment terminals, its exact scope remains uncertain.

Waitomo, another affected brand, confirmed a worldline outage affecting all fuel sites but assured customers of alternative payment methods through their app.

Both Gull and Allied took to social media to address the nationwide technical error, assuring customers of their efforts to rectify the situation promptly. Gull even announced plans for a Discount Day in the following week as a gesture of goodwill to compensate for the inconvenience caused.
