Body found in Avon River

A body has been found in the Avon River this morning.

A heavy police presence is in place in Christchurch’s North Hagley Park, with areas cordoned off to members of the public.

A police spokesperson confirmed they are responding after a body was found in the river this morning.

An earlier version of this story quoted an eyewitness saying armed police were at the scene. Police say this is incorrect.
