One person has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition following a crash between a truck and a car in North Canterbury.

A St John spokesperson told Chris Lynch Media, “One patient is being airlifted to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition and the second patient is being transported to Christchurch Hospital by road in a serious condition.”

A police spokesperson earlier told Chris Lynch Media that emergency services were responding to the “serious crash” on Omihi Road, Greta Valley.

The spokesperson said, “The road is blocked, and diversions will be in place for several hours. The diversions are at Waipara and Greta Valley on State Highway 1. Motorists are advised to expect delays and to avoid the area,” they said.

The incident happened around 10.20am today.

A St John spokesperson said, “We sent two ambulances, one helicopter and an operations manager to the scene where we treated two patients.”
