Emergency crews at fire in Ashburton

Fire and Emergency crews remain at the scene of vegetation fire in Tinwald, Ashburton.

A spokesperson said six fire trucks, four tankers and one rural pump are at the blaze which is burning through a shed, a paddock and a hedge line.

The fire is believed to have started just before 5PM.

Fire and Emergency NZ is reminding the public to be cautious when engaging in spark or heat generating activity.

Make sure you have appropriate suppression equipment with you

- If you have to burn, make sure you check your permit conditions

- Have a portable water supply onsite including during harvest
