Driver apprehended after damaging police vehicles

A man has been apprehended following an incident in Christchurch earlier this afternoon.

About 2.30pm, Police saw a vehicle on Hazeldean Road carrying out a sustained loss of traction and signalled for it to stop.

The vehicle allegedly drove into a Police motorcycle, causing minor damage, and fled.

Superintendent Lane Todd said a pursuit was authorised and a short time later officers stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Longfellow and Millar streets.

During this incident, the vehicle hit a police car twice, and two parked cars, causing extensive damage to all vehicles, though thankfully nobody was injured.

The driver was taken into custody at the scene.

He will appear in Christchurch District Court facing a number of driving-related charges.
