Dangerous & destructive: Youths film their driving rampage through Christchurch mall

Reckless youth offenders, who not only stole a car but also smashed it through Hornby Mall while filming their destructive behaviour, have yet to be apprehended, despite the evidence posted online.

Police were called to the mall at 4.30am on Friday and a spokesperson said no one has been arrested.

Several staff members were inside the Hornby Hub at the time of the incident.

The youths smashed through one entrance, driving through the mall, before smashing the car out another.

A Christchurch mother contacted Chris Lynch Media after her child came across the criminal footage online, which was widely shared on social media.

“These kids are out of control and it’s disgusting. They need to be held accountable for their actions” she said.

Chris Lynch Media has seen the disturbing video but has chosen not to publish it.

In another incident, youths smashed up a vape store in Shirley on the same morning, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.

It happened one month after 12 youths ram-raided the store.

The owner contacted the Government’s retail crime service but was told they were too busy to deal with last month’s attack.

Police had not got back to her following the ram raid either.

Police Minister Ginny Anderson was asked to comment on the crime wave in Christchurch on Friday, but her office, again, said she was travelling all day.
