SHOCKING Footage: Youths vandalise cars, Halswell resident pushed to the brink
A resident in Halswell whose family property is being repeatedly destroyed is calling for police to take Christchurch’s escalating youth crime wave more seriously.
The family, who wished to stay anonymous, have been the victims of multiple offences over the past six months, with their car tyres being slashed and bricks thrown into their lounge window.
The family’s son told Chris Lynch Media CCTV footage captured the youths smashing into their parked cars early this morning.
He said the youths first attempted to steal the car in a newly built Halswell subdivision last week, before they were scared away.
“They came back to smash the cars windows as an act of revenge, our CCTV caught it all happening.”
The resident says the attacks appear to be random, and he hopes their nationality has nothing to do with being targeted by the brazen youths.
“We are a Filipino family, I'm not sure if that is why they are going after us. None of our neighbours have had trouble, it’s only us. This has all happened in the span of six months.”
The resident says following each break in, they have called the 105 Police crime number to report the crimes, and were told Police would contact them back, but they are yet to hear anything.
“Minors are committing crimes and getting away with it. Police are really not taking the situation seriously enough.
“This ordeal is forcing our family to think of having to relocate somewhere else to get away from it all.”
