Christchurch businesses victims of multiple early morning ram raids, burglaries
THREE RAM RAIDS ACROSS CHRISTCHURCH
Christchurch police are investigating multiple ram raids and burglaries in the city early Tuesday morning.
A police spokesman said two stolen vehicles attempted to gain entry to a Metro Mart on Normans Road in Strowan, shortly before 3am.
Both cars were then located outside shops on Wairakei Road attempting another ram raid-style burglary.
Both vehicles fled when police arrived at the scene a spokesman said.
One of the vehicles was located abandoned after it had crashed on Yaldhurst Road.
“Inquiries are ongoing to identify and locate the offenders.”
An hour later, police were called to a vape store on Ferry Road in Woolston.
A stolen Mazda Capella vehicle was used to gain entry to the store.
The offenders fled from the scene in a stolen Primera, which was later located abandoned on Dyers Pass Road.
The police spokesman said the police CIB is investigating to identify what was taken from the store and the offenders responsible.
A 36-year-old man was located and arrested in the area on another matter.
FIVE FERRYMEAD BUSINESSES BROKEN INTO
Pizza Hut in Ferrymead was broken into at about 6 AM by a man aged between 20 and 25.
The owner said the offender, who was wearing a hoody, ripped out the cash register.
He said the offender also broke into the nearby Subway outlet, pharmacy, Sushi and coffee shops.
“All of the business owners are really frustrated by what’s happened.”
He said police didn’t respond to his burglary, but did show up at 2pm Tuesday.
Police have not commented on these crimes.
MULTIPLE BURGLARIES AT THE TANNERY
However, police did confirm they were investigating multiple burglaries at the Tannery on Garlands Road at 6.30AM.
Three stores were broken into and attempts were made to rip out their tills by an offender, who smashed his way in using their back doors.
The offender arrived at the stores on a scooter, and fled the scene when an alarm went off.
“Enquiries are ongoing” the spokesman said.
