House in Woodend destroyed by fire

A house in Woodend has been destroyed by fire.

Fire and Emergency crews were called to the property on Main North Road at 5PM.

A spokesperson said the blaze took hold of the house very quickly.

Fire and Emergency crews were called from Woodend, Rangiora and Kaiapoi.

A person was transported to Christchurch Hospital in a stable condition.

The spokesperson said the house was now unliveable.

State Highway One was diverted to allow fire appliances to work on the fire.

The spokesperson said tonight’s fire was a timely reminder on how quickly fires can spread.

The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.

A Fire Investigator was called to the scene.
